1. YOU ARE THE CO-FOUNDER OF HEALTH AND FITNESS HOLIDAYS – WHY DID YOU GET INTO TRAVEL?

I have been traveling all my life as my Dad was in the army, and I have always loved traveling and with wellness travel I saw an opportunity to positively influence the way Australian’s travel that could impact not only their lives but also have a bigger impact on Australia as a whole by encouraging people to focus on their well-being and live healthier lifestyles reducing depression, anxiety and many other illnesses. So my main driver is to create holidays that can truly change lives.

During my research I came across Health and Fitness Travel in the UK, the “experts in tailor-made healthy holidays” I knew I had to bring this business to Australia and it was immediately well received with many travellers calling in and telling us how they had been on the lookout for such a business and booking up their healthy holidays and it just continues to gain popularity month-on-month.

  1. TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS, WHO COMES TO YOU FOR HOLIDAYS?

We are a specialist online travel company, the first of its kind in Australia. We offer tailor-made healthy holidays worldwide for singles, couples, families and friends. Established in the UK in 2010, Health and Fitness Travel is evolving the travel industry to shift perceptions of healthy holidays into mainstream acceptance.

We offer a huge range of bespoke active and well-being getaways worldwide; from Sub Alpine Hiking at Aro Hā, New Zealand to the ultimate detox and de-stress programs at Kamalaya, Thailand, or comprehensive well-being spa and rejuvenation programs at Como Shambhala in Bali, we offer a wide range of health and fitness holidays appealing to clients with a range of goals and interests.

  1. WHAT IS THE MOST POPULAR DESTINATION FOR YOUR CLIENTS?

We see lots of Australian’s heading over to Asia, this is due to the great retreats on offer, exceptional service and great value for money as well as proximity to Australia. We are also seeing lots of Australians head over to new Zealand due to a great new wellness retreat that opened there just last year and even further afield to take advantage of the world class retreats in Europe during our winter months.

  1. ARE WELLBEING AND FINTESS HOLIDAYS BECOMING MORE POPULAR? WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS?

The local wellness tourism sector is growing every day with more and more Australians seeking better ways to take care of themselves, actively making lifestyle changes, and taking greater responsibility for maintaining good health. As more and more people pay attention to their health, they increasingly want to keep up their healthy habits when they travel.

 5. VIETNAM SEEMS TO BE GAINING MOMENTUM IN ‘POPULAR HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS’ TRENDS – WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS?

Combination of culture, food, beaches and Australians have always been curious by nature and keen to explore new places. It’s quite easy to access and there is a so much to see and do whilst you are there. From Ha Long bay to Hanoi, I recommend you take some time to explore more of Vietnam. Probably two weeks is an ideal time. We offer our Discover Recover programs that allow you to do just that where we tailor one week to “discover” and then a week recovering at one of our wellness properties.

6. YOU RECENTLY SPENT TIME AT A WELLNESS RETREAT IN VIETNAM CALLED FUSION MAIA – TELL US ABOUT THAT EXPERIENCE

Fusion Maia is a flawless combination of healthy living and indulgence, offering a luxury wellness holiday. The service was outstanding, situated on a white sandy beach and with all-inclusive spa treatments meaning I could have two and often more treatments per day I was literally floating on a relaxation cloud between taking part in fitness activities such as tai chi, yoga and using the fully equipped gym. It was also a great base to explore the historic town of Hoi An with complimentary shuttles there. And the team exude a happiness and enthusiasm that is catching

10. TELL US ABOUT THE CULTURE AND THE PEOPLE

Vietnam’s history is complex, the country having been occupied and divided by various countries for decades. Colonial influences are visible everywhere, from the architecture to the food and the coffee. The aftermath of the Vietnam War is apparent too — in the museums and monuments. Interwoven with our own history, Vietnam’s past is not only fascinating, it’s also important to learn about the people of Vietnam.

Speaking of the people they love to smile and are friendly and genuinely interested in getting to know the travellers that visit their country.

Nearby Fusion Maia you can immerse yourself in local culture at the historic town of Hoi An, as well as visit the Marble Mountains, a Local Orphanage and Da Nang villages as part of the Fusion Maia Experience.

Yes. In addition to the guaranteed minimum of two daily spa treatments at the all-inclusive spa, enjoy a daily schedule of activities, classes and excursions. Each day is given a theme, such as ‘open your mind’, ‘enjoy nature’ or ‘be active’, and the activities of the day will reflect that theme. Guests can expect to leave feeling refreshed, re-energised and with a wealth of amazing memories.
